SS 316L Round Bars

SS 316L Round Bars Manufacturer & Supplier in India

SS-316L-Round-Bars

Stainless Steel 316L Round Bars are widely used in industries that require excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and durability in harsh environments. Grade 316L stainless steel is a low-carbon version of SS 316, which provides improved weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion. These round bars are commonly used in marine, chemical processing, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, and food processing industries.

Stellar Alloys Steel Pipes and Tubes is a leading manufacturer and supplier of SS 316L Round Bars in India, offering a wide range of sizes, finishes, and specifications to meet diverse industrial requirements. Our stainless steel 316L bars are produced according to international standards such as ASTM A276, ASTM A479, UNS S31603, and EN 10088-3 to ensure consistent quality and performance.

The presence of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum in AISI 316L stainless steel enhances resistance against pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride environments. This makes SS 316L round bars suitable for marine structures, offshore equipment, and chemical handling systems. These bars are available in different finishes such as bright drawn, black, peeled, polished, and centreless ground.

At Stellar Alloys Steel Pipes and Tubes, we provide SS 316L round bars in various diameters ranging from small precision rods to large forged bars. Applications & Uses of SS 316L Round Bars

Stainless Steel 316L round bars are widely used across several industries due to their high corrosion resistance, strength, and durability.

Common applications include:

  • Chemical Processing Equipment — Reactor vessels, heat exchanger shells, and agitator shafts in plants handling chloride-containing acids and process streams. 316L’s low carbon (0.03% max) prevents sensitization at weld zones — eliminating post-weld annealing requirements in fabricated equipment.
  • Marine & Offshore Structures — Pump shafts, valve stems, and structural components in seawater and salt-spray environments. 2–3% molybdenum in 316L resists chloride pitting that degrades 304 and standard 316 in immersion service.
  • Oil & Gas Industry — Valve bodies, instrument fittings, and pump shafts in non-sour CO2 and chloride environments. 316L preferred over 316 for welded assemblies where PWHT is impractical.
  • Pharmaceutical Equipment — Mixing shafts, agitators, and vessel internals where cGMP hygiene requirements, CIP/SIP cleaning, and TIG-welded joints are mandatory. 316L’s low carbon ensures corrosion resistance is maintained across all weld zones.
  • Food Processing Machinery — Shafts, rollers, and structural members in food and dairy processing. 316L meets FDA and EU food-contact material standards.

The presence of molybdenum in 316L stainless steel improves resistance to chloride corrosion, making it ideal for coastal and marine environments.

FAQs about SS 316L Round Bars

SS 316L round bar is a low-carbon stainless steel bar made from grade 316L, known for excellent corrosion resistance and weldability.

The key difference is carbon content: SS 316L has a maximum of 0.03% carbon compared to 0.08% max in standard SS 316. This lower carbon prevents sensitization — the grain boundary carbide precipitation that occurs in standard 316 when heated to 425–870°C during welding. SS 316L does not require post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) in most applications, making it the preferred grade for welded fabrications in chemical plants, pharmaceutical equipment, and marine systems where weld zone corrosion resistance must be maintained.

Industries such as marine, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and food processing commonly use 316L round bars.

SS 316 round bars are available in diameters from 3 mm to 500 mm, with standard lengths between 3 m and 6 m.

Common standards include ASTM A276, ASTM A479, and UNS S31603.

SS 316L round bars are available in diameters from 3mm (1/8″) up to 800mm, in standard lengths of 3m–6m or custom cut lengths. Available in hot rolled, bright annealed, cold drawn, polished, and centreless ground finishes.

Choose SS 316L when your application involves welding, especially in corrosive environments. The 0.03% max carbon in 316L prevents sensitization — the carbide precipitation at grain boundaries that can occur in standard 316 after welding or exposure to temperatures of 425–870°C. This means 316L welded assemblies do not require post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) to restore corrosion resistance. For non-welded machined parts in corrosive service, standard SS 316 performs equivalently and costs less. Both grades contain the same 2–3% molybdenum for chloride resistance.
